During the 1995 season Toyota entered a fleet of their race tuned Supra GT's into this popular event. Packed into the Supra look alike body shell was Toyota's latest racing technology. A 2,140cc, 4-cylinder turbocharged powerplant was taken from Toyota's Eagle Mk.III racing machine, which was active during the '93 IMSA races in the U.S.A. The X-Trac developed sequential 6-speed gearbox efficiently transmitted this engine's awesome power to the rear wheels. Four wheel double wishbone suspension components were taken from another Toyota prototype racer, the TS010. The body shell was extensively modified to obtain even better aerodynamics. Additional air intakes and outlets, oversized fenders and a huge rear spoiler, gave its massive silhouette and even more aggressive appearance. Four different racing teams used the Supra during the '95 season and among them, Tom's was sponsored by Castrol. Now, Tamiya presents the rally version of the Alpine A110, representing the car that won the 1971 Monte Carlo Rally. The Alpine was developed by Jean Redele, who initially raced with the Renault 4CV. He soon noticed the limitations of its heavy body, and decided to replace it with his own design made of FRP. Redele drove a modified 4CV, dubbed the Alpine, to victory in the Mille Miglia road race in 1955, and continued to develop new versions based on Renault cars. The Alpine A110 was released in 1963, and was based on the Renault 8. It had a 956cc 4-cylinder engine at the rear and lightweight body shell made of FRP. Front suspension featured the independent double wishbone type, while the rear used swing arms. The A110 proved its ability by dominating road races held throughout the late 60's and early 70's, with its win at the 1971 Monte Carlo Rally undoubtedly crowning the pinnacle of its career. Furthermore, its live axle suspension featured front leaf spring shackles located towards the rear to provide sufficient approach/departure angles for superb off-road performance. Fittingly, it is based upon the MF-01X chassis, which has dedicated rally parts and is at home on a range of surfaces. About the Model • This is a 1/10 scale R/C model assembly kit. Length: 414mm, wheelbase: 239mm (L). • The classic Escort Mk.II form is breathtakingly recreated in polycarbonate, and pre-painted in White. Separately molded plastic components are included to recreate bumper, side mirrors and fog lamps. • Polycarbonate front and rear light cases are compatible with separately sold 5mm LEDs. • Stickers are included to recreate blue livery sections, sponsor logos and more. • The MF-01X is at home on-road or on flat dirt, thanks to 4-wheel double wishbone suspension. • Power from the rear mounted motor is transmitted by gear differential to the rear wheels, and via a propeller shaft to the front. In 1999 they were still competitive with an impressive 1-2 finish for drivers Kankkunen and Burns in Argentina (round 7).
