It is a GT3 class spec customer sports car that was converted from the AMG GT road car by the Mercedes-AMG high performance division. The full-size racer features a reliable and powerful 6.3-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine harnessing 558hp. Its carbon fiber body overhauls the road car version and has a prominent grille inspired by the classic 300 SL. The race car is also fitted with racing essentials such as a large rear wing, air intakes, splitter, canards and diffusers contributing to its aerodynamics. The streamlined 2-door coupe Mercedes-Benz CLK had a version with a 4-liter V8 engine capable of 470hp, that was a base for a racecar. It had enlarged front and rear fenders to mount thick tires, and its side sill spoilers and rear wing ensured improved aerodynamics. In the 2002 German Touring Car Masters, the racecar secured the Teams’ Championship. The real car began life as a prototype for the German motor giant’s works racing team, taking part in international races, and in 1954 a production version debuted at the International Motor Show in New York. Despite nominal road car status the 300SL was still a very racy vehicle and proved popular, particularly in the United States. It possessed a 3-liter engine (hence the 300 in its name), and a highly lightweight body (SL stands for Sport Leicht, lit. "light sports") with striking gull wing doors. 1,400 cars were produced by the end of its production run in May 1957. The Tamiya model kit captures the real life subject down to the working Gull-Wing doors and complex tubular space frame. (Item 47437 uses the TT-01 Type-E chassis.) The Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR car took six wins in dominating the 1997 FIA GT Championship. Although inheriting the 2-door coupe form and front section of its base road car, it was actually vastly different. It used a carbon composite monocoque frame with roll cage, a rear 6-liter V12 engine capable of over 600hp, and 6-speed sequential transmission. Its 4-wheel double wishbone suspension featured front and rear pull-rod setups. Article number: 300024317 Product: 1/24 Mercedes Benz SLR722 McLaren 2006 In a joint venture with McLaren Automotive, Mercedes designed the SLR or "Sport, Leicht, Rennsport" (sport, light, racing). The original SLR series was released in the 1950s and were based on the W196 F1 car. To revive the series, Mercedes release a new, sleek SLR in 2003. The SLR722 was introduced, in 2006, and named after the 7:22am start time of drivers Moss/Jenkinson car at the 1955 Italian Mille Miglia endurance race. Powered by a 5.4L SOHC V8 supercharged engine, the 722 is capable of 640hp output and can go from 0 to 100 in 3.6 seconds. Because of its power and beauty, the SLR722 has been compared to supercars such as the Enzo Ferrari and Porsche Carrera GT. 1/24 scale plastic assembly model kit of the Mercedes-Benz SLR722.
